Henry Cuellar is an American politician and attorney who has served as the U.S. Representative for Texas's 28th congressional district since 2005. He is a member of the Democratic Party.
Cuellar was born in Laredo, Texas, and grew up in the border city of Rio Bravo. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
After law school, Cuellar worked as a private practice attorney and as a prosecutor for the Webb County District Attorney's Office. He also served as a member of Texas State Senate from 1991 to 2005.
In 2004, Cuellar was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. He has been reelected ten times, most recently in 2022.
Cuellar is a moderate Democrat who is known for his ability to work across the aisle. He is a member of the Blue Dog Coalition, a group of fiscally conservative Democrat
Cuellar is a strong supporter of border security and immigration reform. He is also a vocal advocate for veterans and education.
In January 2022, the FBI raided Cuellar's home and office. The raid was part of an ongoing investigation into corruption and ties to Azerbaijan. Cuellar has not been charged with any crime, and he denies any wrongdoing.
Despite the investigation, Cuellar was reelected to the House of Representatives in 2022. He is currently serving his eleventh term in Congress.
